Care Quality Commission
The Care Quality Commission (CQC) is at the heart of improving patient choice and value for money offered by healthcare services. Through an annual program of design and development we ensure that the review of all healthcare providers is accurately published and presents information that the public and the professionals can access and use.
Challenge
The Care Quality Commission inspects and regulates over 35,000 healthcare providers. To manage this it requires an extensive database containing hundreds of thousands of reports, reviews and guidance.
Our challenge was to continually enhance and improve the functionality and user experience to deliver understandable and accurate healthcare performance information.
Solution
We put together an annual design and development programme to continuously enhance, improve and integrate the information delivery for this Public Portal.
Using a combination of design and functional innovation, we ensure that the website delivers consistent, accurate and well presented information that people can find and use.
We created a framework that creates a scalable central repository with flexible workflows which allows us easy data management and presentation from multiple administrative sources.
Using XML technology, we provide the Care Quality Commission with widgets that allow users to search and interrogate all their data from third party websites, driving traffic from a selection of new sources.
The website is designed to meet the needs of both the public and the healthcare professionals. So we developed a style of information hierarchy that addresses the needs of both. For the public, we created infographics that represented the equivalent of four million pieces of information in an accessible and easy-to-understanding format. The results were clearly identified using four high impact labelled roundels.
We then developed this initial information solution into more detailed content for the healthcare professional. It was then implemented for a report format where we took dense and disparate information and collated it into and outputted it as a PDF.
Results
A highly accessible website – benchmarked as one of the easiest websites within the Governmental ABL sector, enabling patient choice in today’s healthcare sector.
